Smith's Shopping Trip

I made two shopping trips to Smith's this week. On Friday morning, I misplaced my dish washing detergent coupons, so I went back this morning, after I found them, and bought a few more things. You can find the grocery smarts list here. This sale ends tomorrow.

I was so excited to get my gold envelope in the mail last week. I had a $20.00 check, as well as several other coupons. I used the $20.00 and put it towards my first transaction.

In addition to the Mega Event Promo, I found Cow Pals brand string cheese, the 12 count package for $1.50! There was also a shopping cart at the front of the store with several of their dollar bin items marked down to .59. Mason was excited to get his very own boy sandwich box. The girls each have one, and now he has his own. He wanted to be in the picture. He is my little shopping buddy!

The above transaction included the following:
6 I can't believe it's not butter cubes
4 I can't believe it's not butter spray
2 1 lb. baby carrots
4 12 ct. string cheese
6 goldfish crackers
18 cans Hunts tomatoes
2 bunch of bananas
1 bunch of celery
5 Finish dish washing detergent
5 random dollar store bin items

This transaction included the following:
3 goldfish crackers
9 yogurts
3 cans hunts tomatoes
2 sour creams
4 onions
chicken nuggets
2 1 lb salad mix
8 Pillsbury pie crusts
5 Ken's Salad dressing
4 dozen eggs
2 gallons milk
Clorox bleach
2 bunches bananas
5 lb bag apples
1 box oyster crackers
2 Roma tomatoes
2 packages paper plates
7 packages of cream cheese
grapes
buttermilk

Between the two transactions, I spent $75.00, and I was able to stock up on a lot of things we needed. That is a big key to coupon shopping, buying when you don't need it at a killer price, so when you do need it, you have it on hand. I usually spend $60-80 dollars a week on groceries. Being that I had bought a case of chicken last week when it was on sale at Macey's, I have gone over my grocery budget. But, I borrowed from another account in our budget to make up for the difference. It was worth it to stock up on chicken!

I had another experience that made me grateful I had my coupon binder with me. Smith's had several of the Pillsbury brand pie crusts on clearance for .99, regularly $3.89. I had coupons for .50 off 2, so I ended up buy all 8 for .74 cents a piece. The date on them is February 8th, so I put them in my freezer and have them when I need them. I not a really good pie crust maker, so I was very excited to find these on clearance!

When I was at Smith's this morning, I picked up my canned tomatoes, and I remembered looking at my coupons when I was in the isle, but when I was ready to go to the checkout (I always take a minute before getting in line and make sure I have all of my coupons ready to hand to the cashier) I could not find my tomato coupons anywhere. I have a small envelope that I keep all of my coupons in that I keep in my coat pocket, and they were not there. After retracing my steps in my mind, I went back to the canned tomato isle, and sure enough, all five of them had falled on the floor. I was so glad they were still there! What a blessing!
